Oregon Alert: Your 2005 Criminal Justice Legislation Round-Up
This alert was sent to members on September 20, 2005
The 2005 Oregon Legislature considered hundreds of bills, many having to do with Oregon's criminal justice system. We've posted a final 2005 Criminal Justice Legislative Round-Up to our website (read the PDF version here) focusing on the bills we followed most closely. Here's a quick summary, but for the full story, check out the links to pages on our site.
Click on the links below to read the legislative round-up in detail.
Read about Sentencing Changes (including to Measure 11) and Prison Expansion
Read about Drug and Alcohol Addiction Issues, the "Gang" Bill, and proposals to block future prisoner litigation.
Read about the priority issues for Crime Survivors for Community Safety --- including a bill on prison rape, bills that would have expanded the death penalty, and other issues of interest to survivors of crime and violence
Celebration for Action Alert Members and Others Taking Time to Make Change Happen
Throughout the Western Prison Project’s five years of existence, many people have given hours and hours of their time to make criminal justice reform happen in Oregon and in our region. We want to say thank you to all the volunteers who meet with legislators, guide the direction of the organization, make phone calls, answer mail, write letters to editors, talk to their neighbors about criminal justice reform and do all the many other things it takes to make change happen.
On Wednesday, October 12, we’re taking a little time to thank all the people who have made the Western Prison Project possible.
6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Do You Know Anyone Who Has Experienced Difficulty Because of a Previous Felony Conviction?
Thanks to all of you who replied to our previous action alert and its call for people willing to share their experience of living with a past felony conviction. We are still conducting our VOICE II surveys to document the kind of barriers and difficulties people face because of past felony convictions. The survey is quick and anonymous. Anyone who is interested can call Cassandra Villanueva at (503) 335-8449 ext 206 and say, "I'd like to complete a VOICE survey."
Thanks for being part of the Oregon Action Alert Network for Criminal Justice Reform.
